Indestructible Hulk #12 eBook Mark Waid Mukesh Singh
This issue brings the Hulk and Banner back into the Old West, where they team up with some cowboy characters against a time traveler and his army of dinosaurs. If that line made you laugh out loud, you’ll probably be satisfied here. This has the Hulk smashing his way through dinosaurs before getting ripped back in time even further and winding up in what could be another dimension entirely, since mythical Camelot gets mentioned at the end.In terms of character development, this issue comes off pretty light. The biggest weakness in the depiction of the Hulk during this series is that he’s shown no personality whatsoever. Sure, he occasionally spouts one of his old clichés like, “Puny Banner,” or “Hulk not afraid,” but there’s been no insight into what makes the Hulk tick. Presumably, this is because the story is focusing on Banner, but now that Banner’s main focus has been his inventions and his legacy, neither of which can get touched upon when he’s rocketing around in the Wild West as a robotic orb.
The only other major drawback to this story is that the art doesn’t seem to work very well with what’s going on in the plot. The sketchy, somewhat muddled art worked fine last issue when we were being given a feeling that all is not right in the cosmos, but the flaws show a lot more in a bright desert environment where the Hulk slugs it out with dinosaurs. I guess I would compare this art to a poor man’s John Romita, Junior. If you like JRjr’s art, then this might not be as troublesome as I make it seem.
